While of course the strange majesty of Wreck Room can never be replaced (or can it, since most of the residents currently living in Bushwick have no memory of its existence and it got turned into a portal to suburbia anyway), 101 Wilson is certainly showing a fair attempt to do so.
In the face of unbridled attempts to completely sanitize Bushwick, owner Nicky Flip, a 38-year-old former professional skateboarder from California, is defying all logic with the success of the bar, which is attracting far more of a raucous clientele than it did when it was Miles.
“I kinda knew it was gonna be a success. It’s just something that’s been missing from the ambience of what people expect from Bushwick,” stated Flip as he took a shot and added another graffito to the wall. “People still want something of the ‘old days,’ or at least what they’ve heard about them from the olds who shouldn’t still be in this town but are too broke and stagnant to leave it.” So while 101 Wilson might not have room for a pool table, it’s the closest Bushwick will ever come to having another Wreck Room. Unless Wreck Room re-opened instead of becoming a cupcake shop or something.
