Where there is affluence, there are well-fed dogs. And as your grandmother (or probably great-grandmother if you’re a Bushwick zygote) used to say regarding the maintenance of supreme health, “Eat your roughage.”
Well nowadays, that saying applies especially to supremely cared for Bushwick canines. Enter an all-natural dog food store designed to cater fully to their gustatory needs. Ruff-age, owned and operated by dog lover Sheila Weerdoh, a 41-year-old from Albany, is the discerning pet owner’s solution to a domestic animal’s dietary needs.
Somewhat resembling the contestant in Drop Dead Gorgeous who does impressions of different dog breeds, Weerdoh is a woman of few words. But she did manage to tell us what sort of fare the store would be offering. “It’s going to be all homemade recipes featuring only vegetables and roots created by me and designed for your dog’s specific weight and body type. Hence, Ruff-age. Which is also a play on Ruff Age. As in age of Ruff. As in age of the Dog.” Grossly enough, the artisanal pop tart store next door will be doing a cross-promotional sale with Ruff-age when it opens on April 3rd. Owner Ursula Mousse commented grudgingly, “Is this what I want to do? No. But my image cake store on the other side of me is not doing so well and I need to buttress the business any way I can by offering a 50% off coupon at Ruff-age for every dog-shaped pop tart purchased. Limit one per customer.”
