Austin Powers Masks Sell Out at Every 99-Cent Store on Knickerbocker

While the movie industry has suffered a major blow (no sexual pun intended) as a result of Harvey Weinstein intel galore, cinema lovers have apparently not forgotten their love of Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver from earlier this year, one of the latest films from the auteur to exist outside of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy.

The resurgence of a 90s icon

That being said, one of the most memorable scenes to, apparently, the majority of people was when JD (Lanny Joon), one of the members of Bats’ (Jamie Foxx) “ragtag” crew, buys the wrong mask after being instructed to get a Michael Meyers from Halloween one for their impending heist. Non-cinephile that he is, JD doesn’t comprehend that Bats isn’t referring to Mike Meyers a.k.a. Austin Powers. Hahaha! Miscommunication!

Fresh out of masks, wear the one you already have on–ya phony baloney

Resultantly, Wright lovers (of which there are more in Brooklyn than there are in Hollywood) have chosen to honor this Halloween costume-tailored moment by trolling every 99-cent store on Knickerbocker to find the signature Austin Powers mask. Problem is, with the selection at said stores already so scant, the competition has been fierce. But that doesn’t mean you’re not going to see plenty of fuckboys sporting the same costume at whatever bullshit party in Bushwick you go to–then again, there’s something poetic about them all literally looking the same as opposed to just being the same.
