Although many tend to associate pulsing beats and ecstasy-laden douche baggery with Williamsburg or the Meatpacking District, Bushwick, too, is now trying to assert itself among the ranks of dance-worthy destinations. While Tandem has been the primary source for achieving this, the Committee to Transform Bushwick Into the Next Ibiza has a few radical ideas for drastic change.
“First of all, we’re taking these dance parties a lot deeper. We’re talking New Lots Avenue, even. Sure, that might technically be East New York, but, as we’ve learned, this is the new Bushwick–just like Bushwick is the new Ibiza. It’s all very meta, I’m sure,” stated leader of the committee, Marta Danza, a 29-year-old from Capri.
The latest event Danza put together, Let’s Fuck on XTC, took place in an abandoned sweat shop off the Gates Avenue J, and featured an array of nude men and women suspended from the ceiling for the viewing pleasure of those who paid the $50 entrance fee. “We will be doing a lot more, eh, things like this as time goes on, and I think Ibiza is soon not going to be what people think of when they think of dance music or orgies. It’s going to be Bushwick now,” commented Danza.
