Continuing the pattern of Bushwick-themed things, a typeface inspired by the neighborhood is now to follow the WordPress theme and Urban Outfitters tee that has recently honored this vortex. Initiated by designer Bollo Rodriguez after being inspired by the aesthetic of industrial logos (what’s left of them) and vomited up graffiti, he began a Kickstarter to fund the project.
“I just thought to myself: ‘This neighborhood is so beautiful, with its trash tornadoes and assorted legion of walk of shamers–it just moves me,” stated Rodriguez. Thus, the now “freelance” designer set his Kickstarter at $50,000 for the “required materials” to come up with “a truly sick font.”
Bushwickians immediately took to their phones/computer to well surpass the suggested donation amount. Rodriguez gushed, “Just to show thanks to everyone who donated, I’m going to use $10,000 to throw a party at Los Hermanos–$4,000 of which will go toward top shelf tequila.” If this sort of spending is any indication, it may take decades for Rodriguez to come up with the perfect Bushwick typefaces composed entirely of used condoms, STD vaccines and Roberta’s pizza.
