Paris, Je T’aime was the vignette-based film that launched an unexpected franchise, so to speak, in the form of New York, I Love YouRio, Eu Te AmoShanghai, 我爱你  and Jerusalem, I Love You. Now, the series is rebooting again, though this time it has no sanction from the original creators and producers, instead just taking a rogue approach from local filmmakers who might be semi talented in that they’ve never gone to film school.

What is “love” in Bushwick? Banging

Rather than expressing a sentiment of “love” as the other movies did, the Bushwick version will focus on a less, shall we say, Hollywoodized approach to depicting New York in general and this neighborhood in particular. With roughly six writer-directors already lined up, filming for Bushwick, I Kind of Fucking Hate You has already gotten underway, with sightings of cameras outside of such “romantic” date spots as Ichiran, Guadalupe Inn and Heels reported to The Burning Bush.

Ah, the romance of Bushwick

One of the directors Benton Fairinteeno, a 23-year-old whose parents are giving him the money to produce it, commented, “This is going to be a movie unlike any other. Everyone always wants to romanticize what a city means to them–even fucking Trainspotting did that with Leith/Scotland as a whole. But we’re going to blow the lid off what it means to live in Bushwick, a town that signifies the death of romance. Unless you count fucking on a bench in Maria Hernandez as romantic. There will be a scene of that, by the way.” Bushwick, I Kind of Fucking Hate You is expected to screen at Syndicated this winter.
