Because Bushwick is the type of town where laser discs are still a thing, so it goes that other antiquated forms of media, like CDs, would also still be held at a premium. In a tragic theft that took place on Sunday August 30th, a local man’s CD collection, which included rare box sets and every single put out by Venga Boys, Bushwickians have gotten a glimpse into just how far a person is willing to go to be seen as “hip” in Bushwick.

Edward Kompakt, the 42-year-old owner of the collection, expressed deep sorrow to The Burning Bush over his loss. “It’s not just the time I’ve invested in cultivating the perfect mix of genres, it’s also the money. A 15,031 large CD collection can really add up. And yet, I’m willing to offer even more in order to get it back.”

That’s right, if you haven’t already seen the signs throughout the neighborhood, Kompakt is offering $20,000 to the person who is able to find and return his CDs–even if that person is the thief him(or her)self. “I’m willing to forgive if the culprit comes forward. That’s how much I treasure those discs. They’re like my children.” So there you have it, at least a month’s worth of drinking money if you can help Kompakt out.
