As you already know, California is the second largest demographic of transplants in Brooklyn. So naturally (very naturally, in fact), it makes sense that they’ve also brought their distinct scent to the Bushwick area.
As more Northern and Southern Californians overtake Bushwick, the aroma of marijuana emanating from their every pore will have to be something we all get used to. Although most people love smoking weed, some people can’t stand the tantalization of just smelling it. Because the smell leads to wanting–needing–the taste.
The Burning Bush managed to pin down one transplant from Echo Park, CA, in spite of having to literally shake him out of his weed haze. Stone Burnout, a 21-year-old, who moved here “to make art and stuff,” explained why Bushwickians should be thankful for the pervasive California presence and odor. “We’re just, like, the best. We’re bringing you the best part of our culture, too.” The Burning Bush refrained from regurgitating the Woody Allen quote from Annie Hall about how the only cultural advantage of living in L.A./California is being able to make a right turn at a red light.
