The Bushwick music scene being what it is, it’s only natural that Brooklyn’s first purveyor of exclusively chorded zithers would insert itself into this neighborhood. The owner of the latest specialty store to make its way into town, Zarathustra Instrumentalmann, a 34-year-old originally from Buffalo, has spent decades cultivating the perfect curation of chorded zithers to sell at premium prices.
“There are so many bands in Bushwick being held back by the fact that they don’t have access to chorded zithers. I want my store, Thus Spoke Zitherustra, to change the entire musical structure around here. People have become too reliant on go-to instruments like guitars and drums, but the chorded zither brings an entirely new element to the potential of a song,” remarked Instrumentalmann.
Robbie Grooveplate of the Dirty Slores noted of this addition to Bushwick, “I think this is gonna change the entire game. No more falling back on cliche bullshit like bass guitar–which is, by the way, the most ignoble instrument if you think about the fact that it was what made Sid Vicious get into a band.” When asked if the Dirty Slores planned to buy a chorded zither for their own band, Grooveplate replied, “Nah, I don’t think so. It’s not really our style.” And at $3,000 a pop, it’s likely not going to be many musicians’ “style.”
