As Citi Bike makes its way down the line of North Brooklyn, it was obvious that Bushwick was going to be next on the list. What’s been delaying this inevitability, however, is creating a specialty batch of bikes just for Bushwick’s very specific residents.
A spokesperson for the service, Brando Profiter, a 33-year-old formerly of Goldman Sachs, told The Burning Bush, “We know that, for the most part, Bushwickians already have bikes of their own. So we thought, ‘What would really make us irresistible to them?’ That’s when the idea for wicker baskets and music instrument holders came to us. We know everyone is either an aspiring musician or writer in this neighborhood, or simply needs a basket to put their six-pack in.”
So accurate was Citi Bike in their suppositions that membership for the 20-rack bike post has already reached an all-time high, which means the company is already planning to expand from its first location off the Morgan stop all the way to New Lots Avenue. It may have been a long time coming, but, apparently, these hipstered out bikes were worth the wait to most Bushwickians.
