Commonly Overheard in Bushwick is an occasional series we write whenever we hear something someone actually said on the streets or in the businesses of Bushwick. This is not to be confused with the Tumblr of a similar name.
While many a Bushwickian’s Instagram would try to tell you a different story, one that ensures what a “sick” time they’re having, the truth that lies beneath is just a little uglier, a little more painful to acknowledge without having ingested copious amounts of alcohol and achieving that type of inebriation known as “sad drunk.”
That’s why, one night, The Burning Bush finally secured (not that we didn’t know already) the unbridled facts about Bushwickian existence: it’s a pile of trash. How did we find out, exactly? Namely, someone sitting in the corner seat at Bootleg Bar told another person, “Your life is a pile of trash.” We didn’t need to hear anymore than that. We live the reality every day.
From destitute bank accounts (you know, for the non-“starving artists“) to another one-night stand leading your genitals further into the day old bread category, there is no denying that most Bushwickians should really go back to the small town from whence they came, forget about the attempt at debauched “youth” and get a job at one of those office malls.
