In the ceaseless trend that is Williamsburg DIY music venues migrating to Bushwick, Glasslands is the latest to mirror Trash Bar, which really just bouged out by becoming The Lilypad off Montrose Avenue instead of going forward with its plan to be Rash Bar.
Now, Glasslands is doing the same, re-branding to Diamondlands. Loosely borrowing from The Neon Demon screenplay, the owner of Diamondlands, Murray Yungurlluvr, a 39-year-old from Pittsburgh, stated, “Why not be a diamond in a sea of glass? We have an opportunity to stand out in Bushwick more than we ever did in Williamsburg.”
Those in the local music scene have expressed simultaneous excitement and bewilderment over the infiltration. “We’re a little worried. We know Diamondlands isn’t going to have the ‘in your basement’ feel of somewhere like Silent Barn. And that can add a lot of pressure to gigs, you know?” explained Robbie Grooveplate, lead singer of the Dirty Slores. Still, who can resist the promise of overpriced “designer” cocktails while watching people of no particular talent perform for you?
