With dog theft a common occurrence in Bushwick (even though only exotic animals are the mark of a true socialite), it’s no wonder that local bar partoness Mary-Ellen Wangman, a 36-year-old slightly obsessed with her King Charles spaniel, Riccardo, lost hers to the charms of a man she thought was interested in her.

Like so many other women, I met him on Tinder. I thought he was into me when he agreed to meet me at my favorite expensive bar, Miles. Even though they don’t usually let dogs in there, Riccardo is just so cute and small that they never tell me no, so I brought him along,” stated Wangman. “It was the biggest mistake I ever made.”

The man in question, Juanjo Saldovar, a 28-year-old waiter at El Mio Cid, reportedly walked into the bar “all Rico Suave and made [Wangman] fall in love with him” long enough to let him into her bedroom, relinquish all sense of control by getting wasted and thereby permitting Saldovar to walk out of the apartment with her true beloved. Neither her suitor nor her dog has been seen since. So either they’re having the most bestial love affair of all-time or Saldovar made enough money off of selling the dog to escape to Cuba.
