Bushwick institution Brooklyn’s Natural, one of the few businesses that existed off the Morgan stop before the “millennial” invasion, has been bought out by Duane Reade. This Manhattan staple has locations in Brooklyn, too, but no one ever thought they’d live to see the day when it made a cameo in Bushwick.
The owner of Brooklyn’s Natural, Sam WuTang, confessed to The Burning Bush, “They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.” In addition to missing the store’s signature sandwiches and wraps, we’ll also have to deal with the questionable sushi Duane Reade sells. The manager of the new store, Jason Schwartzman, assured, however, “We’ll do our best to appeal to the sensibilities of the neighborhood. We’re even going to have a craft beer section that gives the Williamsburg Duane Reade a run for its money.”
Indeed, Bushwick continues to model itself after the gentrification timeline for Williamsburg. It starts slowly, and before you know it a Beacon’s and a Duane Reade sleigh ride into a Whole Foods and an Urban Outfitters. We’re just glad that this Duane Reade location is planning to offer a consignment section for art and clothes.
