After numerous protests against further 421-a tax abatement programs like the one given to luxury condo Fortress 1492, “natives” have retaliated by setting the entire building ablaze as a statement to developers with their claws perched and ready to dig in to other neighboring territory.
The protest leader, Marielisa Delgado, a 34-year-old who has been living in Bushwick since she was born, told The Burning Bush, “I gathered all my friends and anyone I knew who was disgusted with what Fortress 1492 represents and told them that taking back Bushwick was in our hands–that we would have to burn this fucker to the ground to truly show these ‘colonists’ that we’re serious about protecting what’s ours.”
The blaze began at approximately 2:31 a.m. late last night and has been burning ever since. Noel Arsoniste, who has been on probation for the past few months since setting the Williamsburg CitiStorage on fire, was also on the scene to help the angry mob exact retribution. As for the residents inside the building, well, they’re all still alive thanks to the high-tech smoke detectors installed on every two inches of ceiling space. Fortress 1492 building management has temporarily relocated them to La Bouche while they seek other accommodations.
