Ever since the horticulturist on Twin Peaks wormed into the world’s heart with his shyness and French phrase, “J’ai une âme solitaire,” people have really grown fond of the sensitive spirit that comes with being able to cultivate flowers just about anywhere. And by anywhere, one means Bushwick, the most challenging place for any flower to grow (both literally and metaphorically).

J’ai une âme solitaire

Enter Eunice Violetplum, a 35-year-old who has chosen to use her gift to turn trash cans into little gardens that Bushwickians can appreciate as they hobble home from their hangovers or to work at roughly 6 p.m. to start bartending. However, some Bushwick residents aren’t as grateful as Violetplum was expecting.

“I wanted to throw my fucking coffee cup out before I got on the train and there it was, a beautiful fucking display of flowers. And I was just like, ‘Great, if I throw this in there then I’m a piece of shit, right?'” explained Horace Flourless, a pastry chef specializing in gluten-free desserts. So while Violetplum may be aesthetically improving Bushwick in one regard, she’s also probably going to incite the existence of many more of those, as the elementary school derogatory term goes, “litterbugs.”
