With Bushwick becoming so gentrified that even the words “mami” and “papi” are disappearing, a militant homosexual organization called Gay Day seems like exactly what the neighborhood needs for a more “colorful” edge. The near 20,000 square foot space is decorated in a plethora of vibrant hues with minimalist furniture and oil paintings of Barbra Streisand à la Christina Ricci in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
The leader of the organization, Jan Haytstrayt, a 35-year-old formerly from Northampton, Massachusetts, stated to The Burning Bush, “It’s time to take back Bushwick from these straights who think they own the town. Tandem and Cobra Club isn’t enough.”
Gay Day will offer a number of free classes promoting “the gay agenda,” including Running Through the Streets Bombastically, Dressing to Get Noticed, Express Yourself, Don’t Repress Yourself and Paint the Town Pink. Anyone with homosexual leanings is welcome to present himself or herself there to join the movement. Protests will be taking place inside and throughout the area nearby daily.
