Ever since V for Vendetta came out, everyone feels superior in their so-called brilliance for remembering when Guy Fawkes Day is. In a way both noble and strange for England to honor it with a somewhat unofficial air, the legend of Guy Fawkes and his failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605 has long ago spread to America (see: that Daria episode, “Depth Takes A Holiday,” where Guy Fawkes, Christmas and Halloween escape from Holiday Island).
And with his underground popularity bubbling to the surface with each passing year, House of Maybe is getting in on the action with a somewhat ill-advised fête in his honor that will offer an “all cannon and cannonball room” for dancers and revelers alike to writhe upon while wearing their Guy Fawkes masks and capes.
“We’re not 100% sure about how active the cannons we’ve rented from the Kremlin Museum actually are, but whatever, you gotta take risks for putting on the party of the month,” commented one contortionist, Guyano Bendable, a 24-year-old of dubious sexuality and gender. But for those willing to take their lives into their own hands for the sake of celebrating that roguish, rebellious spirit that is Guy Fawkes, bring your gunpowder to the party this Saturday at 10 p.m.
