Even more than locales like Hell’s Kitchen, the West Village and Chelsea, Bushwick has always been an embracing hub for the gay community (which I always feel strange saying as it’s weird to say “straight community,” so why tack the word community on to any sexual orientation?). With the Supreme Court’s passage of gay marriage on Friday, Bushwickians celebrated in a fashion all too typical of them: throwing a mass orgiastic wedding that stretched from the Morgan Avenue to Dekalb Avenue stops.
“Even though monogamy was kind of a fad in this town for awhile, it’s obviously like really difficult for people in Bushwick to commit fully to anyone–straight, gay or whatever,” noted Roberta Attempter, the 28-year-old organizer of “the biggest wedding and orgy on the planet.” Later billed as Bushwick Bacchanalia Binge, the event only just concluded late this morning, with the stormy weather of Saturday only serving to intensify the level of fervor.
Franny Ravage, a 19-year-old lesbian participant in the wedding “festivities” and possibly the youngest person there to want to get married, gushed, “I think I found all the loves of my life at Bushwick Bacchanalia Binge this weekend. Now I just need the Supreme Court to legalize bigamy.” Perhaps Hillary can work toward putting that on her campaign platform while headquartered in Bushwick.
