What’s Bushwick coming to when even the ghettoto outlets for shopping off the Knickerbocker Avenue M stop are forced to close? The beacon of affordable buying, Shoppers World (which is as Big D was to Greenpoint), has been forced to shutter its doors once its lease is up thanks to a buyout from a company that wants to turn it into a mini mall in the vein of the one on Bedford Avenue.
The manager at Shoppers World, Julissa Randome, a 33-year-old from the Dominican Republic, sadly explained, “It just doesn’t make sense for us to be here anymore. The people off this stop want ‘nice things’ now. Artisanal ice cream, size 0 clothing, that sort of thing. What place does Shoppers World have in their hearts?”
Stores expected to open in the mini mall include Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, On the Tit Kidswear and Orange Julius (for irony, you know). There’s also the chance of installing a merry-go-round for the adult babies that live in Bushwick. What does this all mean? Take advantage of the Shoppers World going out of business sale while you can.
