Rumors are swirling over what could have possibly prompted the name change of the illustrious Mary Meyer & Friends on Bogart Street to simply Friends. While fashion insiders have been speculating that the moniker switch stems from Meyer’s shame over a sweat shop controversy, others have different ideas altogether.
“Mary has been going through a rough few years. Between a partnership with Beacon’s Closet and meeting the demands for Black Friday sales, it’s just been, like, really hard for her to keep up,” stated Meyer’s longtime seamstress, Mary Meyer Jr. “She needed some help, I think, so she sold some of her shares to other local designers to offset costs, hence the new title, Friends.”
But not everyone is buying this excuse. Some think she’s skipped town altogether. One occasional patron, Luwanna Stilo, a 24-year-old FIT dropout, seethed, “We all know her fashions were getting a little tired. I think she knew it was time to leave Bushwick and let the new generation take control.” Mary Meyer, nor her publicist, could be reached for comment on the name switch. In the meantime, we’re waiting for NBC to sue.
