Just as Su Friedrich tried to claim what was left of the territory in Williamsburg by tagging “Artists Used to Live Here” on the wall of a lot with a condo going up on it in Gut Renovation, so too, are the last vestiges of original Bushwick residents trying to stop inevitable “progress.”

The anonymous ringleader behind the graffiti messaging rued to The Burning Bush, “We can’t take another building going up in this town–least of all a condo–that’s only going to cause more irrevocable damage by only allowing rich whites to enter the premises.”

The construction developers behind the project, Dominique Francon Corporation, could not be reached for a statement, though the CEO of the company is known for making Donald Trump-league offensive remarks, such as, “Poor people? What are they? I have no use for them.” This is made increasingly evident by the actions of most real estate endeavors in the Bushwick area, and it’s unlikely that any amount of graffiti is going to change that.
