When Beyonce and Jay-Z announced they were leaving Brooklyn for Los Angeles, there was a bittersweet tinge. When Lena Dunham announced it, there was an all-out odor of hypocrisy. The “girl” who made her fortune on the back of North Brooklyn, exposing it to outsiders who never should have been made aware of it, has decided to depart (at least part-time) for the much more body-conscious City of Angels.
Although Dunham was once quoted as saying, “I like Los Angeles, but more than two weeks and I start to get a very sad feeling… You eat well there, and you take hikes, and my dog loves it, but ultimately it’s not the right place for me.” Apparently, however, it’s the right place for her inner hypocrite.
Incidentally, Dunahm will be moving into the house where similarly aestheticked George Peppard of Breakfast at Tiffany’s fame lived. Maybe she can now find inspiration to create a new show about a group of thirty-somethings trying to fit in among the youth-dappled roads of Los Feliz, thereby causing rents to skyrocket there as well.
