It’s perhaps a mistake more common than confusing “your” and “you’re.” But The Burning Bush never would have suspected that Los Hermanos, of all places, would confuse the colors of the Mexican flag with the Italian flag. And yet, that’s exactly what they did upon creating five (cinco) limited-edition horizontal salsa bottles in honor of Cinco de Mayo.
This PR snafu couldn’t come at a worse time for the business, which has been seeing a rapid decrease in sales since the surge in the number of Mexican restaurants cropping up in Bushwick. Lead food strategist Jaquim Malocomida explained that the intentions behind the festive sauce creation were noble. “We wanted to acknowledge, um, I think it’s Mexico’s independence day. We know a lot of people in Bushwick love to celebrate it and it was careless of us not to confirm the actual order of the Mexican flag colors.”
But before Malocomida could issue his apology, the damage had already been done. And yet, surprisingly, the only person truly offended was the only woman of Italian descent currently living in Bushwick, Smoking Barrel, alias The Wicked Bitch of Bushwick. “I am an Italian American and proud. This mixup is an insult to both Italians and Mexicans. But mainly Italians. How fucking difficult is it to get the colors right on a flag? The Mexican one even has like a goddamn bear on it at the center or something. Or Is that California? I don’t know. The point is, this is an outrage and Los Hermanos won’t be getting my business again no matter how drunk I am,” asserted the Wicked Bitch. Others, however, have confirmed that the salsa is “bangin'”.
