If you’ve ever had to suffer the pain of sitting alone at a bar to drink/drown your sorrows, then you’ll undoubtedly appreciate a new app created by Bushwick local Javier Dipendiente, a 34-year-old coder/web designer who spent the past two years developing and fine-tuning what he has christened “Drink Your Feelings.”
“The idea came to me quite easily, considering how often I would want to go out drinking when none of my other friends would. They were always too broke or busy being parents. It frequently made me feel even more depressed and alone than John Lennon during his L.A. bender in the 70s.” Dipendiente paused to take a sip from his screwdriver and check Drink Your Feelings to see if anyone else was around the Pine Box area to join him.
“I got to thinking about apps like Tinder and Grindr, how they bring people together over a common interest: wanting to get laid. So, why then, I wondered, wasn’t there something to bring people together over the common interest of drinking?” Drink Your Feelings does, in fact, replicate many of the characteristics of the aforementioned dating apps, matching people by location, favorite local bar and type of alcohol, as well as where they fall on the binge drinking scale. So what are you waiting for? Everyone knows only Hemingway can pull off drinking alone. Isn’t it time you stopped trying to pretend you’re okay with drinking your feelings by yourself?
