Perhaps it’s to be expected that when a bar is forced to change locations, it will invariably be forced to close down as well. When the original Kings County left its post on Seigel Street back in 2014 (so long ago), however, one never could have imagined it would disappear so quickly from its bougier 1 Knickerbocker location.
According to the bar’s PR point person, Nicky Deludid, “We’ve been made an offer we can’t refuse. With the neighborhood constantly changing and transforming into something that more closely resembles the Upper East Side, we decided to take La Grande Danse’s payoff of three million dollars for the space.”
La Grande Danse, a boutique ballroom dancing company with one other location in Tours, France, has been eyeing Bushwick for quite some time now, especially after classy dance events like Kate Bush burlesque have become so fashionable. “We feel Bushwick is finally ready–mature enough–to pay $300 per class to learn how to become more sophisticated on the dance floor. And the space at 1 Knickerbocker is just so perfect for it,” commented Claude Claudette, the 41-year-old director of the program. The school is expected to infiltrate sometime in Fall 2015.
