Amid swirling rumors about why Radio Bushwick has abruptly closed until further notice, the chief speculation being due to landlord issues, it’s pretty clear to The Burning Bush that the real reason lies behind the venue’s announcement that Penn Badgley’s band, MOTHXR, would be playing a show during CMJ.

Badgley, who has been terrorizing the neighborhood with his music ever since he moved in, was doing a sound check on the afternoon of October 21st, when the landlord–with police in tow–strolled in and informed Badgley and his crew that they would need to leave as the building was being shut down indefinitely.

The owner of Radio Bushwick could not be reached for comment, presumably due to the shame of asking Badgley to perform anywhere other than the bedroom. Though we were able to get a quote from a fan that was planning to attend the show, Taylor Momsen, who stated, “I’m super bummed. I was hoping to jump on stage and sing with him. It woulda been like a brother-sister reunion.”
