It’s no secret that the aesthetic of most Bushwick apartments toes the line between Hasidic chic decor stylings and bed bug junkie den. But a local photographer’s decision to take a random pool of photos of various apartments she found herself in each morning (fucking, you know) highlights just how dire the circumstances are.
It wasn’t just that most of them look like Van Gogh’s shitty ‘bachelor’s pad’ as rendered in ‘Bedroom in Arles,’ it was that everyone in it–all the roommates I saw as I slinked out in the morning–had this look of terror and traumatization à la Wendy Torrance in The Shining. It was very unsettling to see the same expression in every photo I developed at The Dark Room,” stated Sheila Heady, the 28-year-old photographer who is now having an art show to reveal just what she means.
The exhibit, Wendy Torrance’s Bedroom in Bushwick, will run at local sandwich/coffee shop (Abbi in Broad City isn’t the only one who can have one) Little Skip’s from Aug. 18th to Aug. 22nd. Don’t miss your chance to see just how grimly you live flash before your eyes. You can even buy one of the photos to put in your room for that ultra meta effect.
