In the seemingly endless battle between Bushwick and Ridgewood for prestige among the “poverty-stricken artists” of North Brooklyn, Bushwick has received a much needed point in its favor: “Ridgewood is for poseurs who can’t afford Bushwick.” Or so says Ridgewood councilman Antonio Traidor, a 39-year-old business owner, and now, controversy starter.

“As we were discussing the astronomically rising rents in Bushwick at our weekly meeting, it occurred to me, Ridgewood wants to be more expensive so that it can seem worthwhile to those migrating from nearby Bushwick, in addition to other parts of Brooklyn,” stated Traidor, whose expression of contempt for Ridgewood immediately scandalized his fellow council members.

“Even if it were the case that only lameoids who can’t shell out for a Bushwick apartment are the ones who live in Ridgewood–which I’m not saying it is–Traidor had no right to turn against his own like that,” balked councilwoman Melinda Finicky, a 41-year-old mother of two who makes it out to Bushwick one night a week with her husband when she wants to “spice it up.” With Traidor’s extreme opinion out there in the open, will Ridgewood suffer an irrevocable blow to its coolness?
