Ramshackle loft building 345 Eldert Street (not surprisingly managed by the same landlords who collect rent on the McKibbin) has recently attempted to raise funds for displaced residents forced to leave after the building was slapped with a number of violations/the statute of limitations on shitty apartments was reached. The method for doing so? A nude calendar, of course.
Unfortunately for the dryly named 345 Eldert Residents in the Flesh calendar, a fellow nude spread, Schlubs of the Shwick, promoting Bushwick men in their birthday suits has taken offense to what they see as “being ripped off.” The photographer for the latter, Zadie Equalist, maligned the Eldert Street residents for their lack of originality, lambasting, “If they wanna raise funds for their little ‘community,’ why don’t they just ask their parents like normal people? Huh? Why do they have to take away from the integrity of what my calendar represents?”
What Equalist’s calendar represents is reverse misogyny, with the photographer’s intent being to exploit men’s bodies as grotesquely and blatantly as women’s. “My calendar is art. Theirs is begging for rent money. How am I supposed to compete with that?” Evidently, by suing the building’s management and its residents for damages. The lawyer representing Equalist could not be reached for comment on the matter. Both calendars can be purchased via the internet or at select Bushwick outposts.
