Have you ever been walking along in your flip flops, shoeless footwear or jelly sandals trying to refill your one-hitter as you go and then, suddenly, out of nowhere, tragedy strikes and you slam your bare toes against the base remnant of what used to be a signpost?
Well, if you haven’t, chances are, you probably will at some point during your Bushwick life. It’s happened to the best of us, really, even ex-Bushwick celebrities like Moonchild. With the increase in the number of signs being randomly cut down (who can say why?), the nubs still embedded in the sidewalk lie in wait for feet to kick up against them.
“Yeah, I severed a toe a few days ago, but it was just the pinky one so I’m fine,” said Janis Nynetoez, a 24-year-old who was walking to her job at Heels. Others are not as nonchalant about signpost nub fatalities. “Something has got to be done about this. Either signs need to stop being cut down or these assholes need to fully extract it,” seethed Ben Lerner, who occasionally walks through Bushwick clandestinely to have trysts with his students.
