In addition to Lit Lounge opening up in the McKibbin lofts, Starbucks has also made a bid for space in this coveted maxi pad. The new location would promise to be something a bit different from your usual Starbucks, with live music from all the bands that inhabit the McKibbin, as well as selling said bands’ music instead of soundtracks from movies for the middle-aged.
But that’s not the only thing that will make this particular Starbucks extra special. There will also be a designated area for people to work on art projects including collages, mixed media and even graphic design. All the materials will be subsidized by Starbucks, who later plans to sell the art for quadruple the price at their other locations.
One resident, Haley Gearhead, noted, “I’m super excited about this. Now, I’ll never have to worry about being hungover after hanging out at the Lit Lounge till 4. I can just go straight to Starbucks, get a drink and then start working my job as a barista. I really couldn’t have asked for a better setup.” Other Bushwickians, however, don’t share her enthusiasm. Owner of nearby cafe, The Fixx, exclaimed, “They’re pushing us all out! Even the bars are fucked if they get their liquor license.” Obviously, emotions are running high on both sides, but nothing is going to stop this Starbucks from invading the McKibbin.
