It used to be that when you wanted to go somewhere to experience a night or weekend of sin, Las Vegas was the first town that popped into your mind. Now, with its legal prostitution, ebola-infused strip clubs and snuff movie locations, Bushwick has quickly taken over the reins for the “most debauched city” moniker.
Travelers from the farthest reaches of the country–from right here in New York City to the lengthy span of San Diego–have discovered that Bushwick is the best kept secret in decadence and depravity. Beneath its veneer of ever expanding bougieness remains a seedy underbelly that champions all things base.
The Burning Bush spoke to a number of different out-of-towners ranging from European hostel stayers to schleppers from the Bronx. Ulla Goodtyme, a 41-year-old Scandinavian, stopped boofing another girl long enough tell us, “I needed to unleash my stress. Bushwick has helped me do that.” Once she returns home, however, she will “forget this ever happened.”
Similarly Jachim Thrillseeker, a 24-year-old who just graduated from Fordham and has no idea what to do with his life, frequently comes to Bushwick to “blow off some steam by blowing as many dudes as possible.” For whatever reason, Bushwick makes people feel okay with tapping into the darkest recesses of their otherwise suppressed fantasies and inhibitions. With this in mind, the Bushwick Committee for Town Slogans has decided to co-opt the Vegas motto for itself.
